Colonisation, gold and the gilded Victorian Age

The Rippon Lea Archery Club – started by Frederick Sargood – met for practice every Friday.

In the 1890s Frederick Sargood constructed a purpose-built Archery House close to the existing archery range.

Edward Whybrew’s work brought him halfway around the world – from the busy streets of London to one of Melbourne’s grandest mansions.

The Rippon Lea Fernery is one of the best surviving examples anywhere of a grand fern house from the ‘Golden Age’ of gardening.
